Getting started

Winder turns half-frame lab scans into a tidy, portable photo library. This page gets you from install to your first filed roll in about five minutes.

Install

Winder runs on iOS, macOS and Android — one app, the same darkroom everywhere. Grab it from the App Store or Google Play.

Your first roll

1. Get your scans. Ask your lab for standard 35mm scans (JPEG or PNG). Each file will contain two of your half-frame shots side by side — that's normal, and it's exactly what Winder expects.
2. Tap the orange key in the middle of the dock and choose your scan files. Batch as many as you like.
3. Review each cut. Winder finds the black divider bar automatically. If a cut needs adjusting, drag the bar. Rotate either half, keep both or just one, or discard a scan entirely.
4. Pick an album. Albums are just folders — create one per roll, per trip, per anything.
5. Stamp the roll. Set the date, place, camera and film once; Winder applies it to every frame in the batch. Choosing a camera (say, Pentax 17) fills in the lens automatically.

That's it. Your shots are now single, upright, organized frames.

Where photos live

Everything is stored as plain files — albums are folders, metadata lives in JSON sidecars. See The library format for the full story, including how to sync with iCloud Drive.

Defaults worth knowing

• Scan size defaults to 3130 × 2075 px (the common lab output for 135 film). Change it in Settings → Film & scanning if your scanner differs.
• Rebate trimming (shaving the dark border off each frame) is on by default.
• Output is JPEG at quality 95.
